Practical Organizing Solutions: DON’T buy more bins & organizing supplies

Getting organized is more than pretty containers.

Progress over perfection is the best way to think about it when you start the organizing process. Your space doesn’t have to be perfect to be functional. Buying containers for your stuff will not magically make you organized. It will actually only add to the clutter if you don’t have a system in place to keep up with. Shoving your stuff into pretty containers without sorting and decluttering only hides your stuff and doesn’t solve the problem.

Containers should actually be one of the last steps.

Once you declutter, you may find that there are enough containers or other supplies already in your home that have not been utilized in the most efficient manner. Think about the items in each space and decide if it makes sense for them to have a “home” in another location or if they are ideal in their current space. Each space will have its own unique needs to store and contain items to create a flow to make day to day life easier.

For example: drinkware makes more sense being stored near the sink or refrigerator and not by the stove. Pots and pans should be stored close to the stove. Etc.

Your goal is to create a “home” for each item so it is easier to find and put away.
